About us
Healing environment and rich history
We are a sustainable non-profit organisation and part of the Slovenian Red Cross (RKS) network that works to ensure the healthy development of children. Thanks to donations and volunteer work, the Health Resort has gradually been built up to what it is today, and its care and mission are still manifested today as the realisation of a vision that dates back to 1955. The beautiful environment, the perfected infrastructure have been contributing to the exceptional health and well-being of the youngest, the youth, families and the elderly for many years now.
A quick historical overview of the Health Resort

1955-1956
On 13 June, following a proposal by the Slovenian Red Cross (RKS) to establish the RKS Debeli rtič Health Resort, the first 100 children spent the summer here with the help of volunteers.
1962
The RKS established the Debeli rtič Youth Natural Health Resort and with the help of the RKS Youth Brigades, all the necessary infrastructure was built and the coast and bathing area were developed.
2005
The resort has been granted a Decision on the declaration of a natural healing remedy – climate and a Decision on the verification of a natural health resort. This also regulated the legal status of the resort.

Mission
Vision
The mission of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and thus the Slovenian Red Cross, is to improve the lives of vulnerable persons through the power of humanity.
- operates in accordance with the seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross movement: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntarism, voluntary service and universality;
- monitors people’s lives in local contexts and respond actively to situations of distress and helplessness, especially among vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly;
- ensures respect for human beings and encourages people to share their well-being with those who are helpless and in need;
- fosters and builds a sense of solidarity and understanding of the hardship of others within the organisation and among people;
- promotes and spreads the values of health and healthy living;
- introduces planned education and training to carry out its mission and tasks;
- spreads the knowledge of the Red Cross movement and international humanitarian law.

“The first time I went to Debeli rtič I was 10 years old and there were only military camps, a kitchen and an almost ruined villa. In the short summer months, there were a lot of children, so the kitchen, the laundry and us future paediatricians couldn’t keep up with the situation. Thanks to the dedication of the staff, the children had their first encounter with the sea without any major problems. During my many months at the Health Resort, I also encountered serious accidents and illnesses. Many guests have recovered precisely because they were at the Health Resort at the time. All these incidents have helped me to better appreciate the work of the doctors.”

“I spent my winter holidays in 2000 at Debeli rtič, in Pavilion B. We got up at seven in the morning, washed up and then went for breakfast. After breakfast we played on the playground. We swam in the indoor pool. In the morning I liked to read a book or play badminton. We also took a boat ride to the Port of Koper. We would go for walks along the shore and collect shells, but I forgot to bring them home. We also had three dance events. Vili Resnik sang at the in final one and I got his autograph. I made many new friends.”

“One fine afternoon, I was having fun on the beach with some friends I met here in Debeli rtič. We took pictures together, sang and talked about the things we love. I realised that I had met a lot of good and kind people here who became my good friends.”
